Is Your Tweetfolio Credible?

Have you ever wondered why people are clamoring to add more followers on twitter? I’m sure you see all the advertisements offering to “Get this many thousands of twitter followers in 90 days… fast… while you sleep… etc, etc.”
Well, let’s play out the numbers and see if we can figure this out. Imagine that you have 100,000 followers on twitter and you have a product worth $99.95. Now picture yourself creating high impact 140 character promotional tweets that you send out three times over the course of two or three days.
We’ll be realistic and say that 1% of your followers click on the link you provide. Out of that group of people, 1% of them buy your product. So, let’s do the math. 100,000 x 1% = 1,000 x 1% = 10. When 10 people buy your $99.95 product, you make nearly 1,000 from posting those three promotional tweets!
Right now some of you might be thinking… “Wait a minute… 100,000 followers! Are you kidding me?” Ok… Ok… so even if you take it down to 20,000 followers, the numbers are still pretty sweet.
The goal is to get as many targeted followers as possible. We’ll work on a little strategy to help all of our sales and leadership minded readers get a jump start on building a quality following at the end of this post, but first things first…
The best way to build a following is to get involved. What it really comes down to is consistent participation, engagement, and credibility. I’ve seen some tweeters who think they can go on there and just post one advertisement after another and expect people to buy. That’s not going to happen. I mean, I’m not buying that long copy, landing page stuff that has me reading in circles through paragraphs that last for days. What I will do, is buy from a tweeter who builds a credible “tweetfolio”!
They are Human – They share funny and interesting things that happened to them thought their day… whether it be little events with their family or things from work.
They are Relevant – They always seem to pick out the most relevant topics, trends, and information to keep me in the loop. They share both original tweets and re-tweet (RT) all the best stuff.
They are Trustworthy – The first two points will build a following… this third one determines whether your followers will buy.
I don’t know about you… but these are the tweeters whose tweets I read… and this is the tweeter whose tweets I’ll buy. WOW say that 10 times fast!
So… How credible is your tweetfolio? What effective strategies are you using on twitter?
Are we following each other on Twitter? Here’s a quick and easy way to get me to follow you! In addition, all of my followers will see you… and potentially follow you also! Copy the one of the tweets in bold below and paste it into the twitter “What are you doing?” status update box…
Hey @SalesBlogcast I just put the follow on you… follow me back!
@SalesBlogcast Loved your post about building your tweetfolio!
Or make up your own tweet… just make sure it includes @SalesBlogcast so you pop up in my search.
Remember, these tweets will flash up on my screen alerting me to follow you back, and they will also appear to all of my followers, which will give them the option of following you too! Please do not send it as a “Direct Message” as I won’t be able to track them that way. In addition, DMs are private and will prevent all of my followers from seeing and following you. Since there is a daily follow back limit, please give me a few days to follow everyone back. See you there!

Doyle, this is an awesome post, thanks for writing it. I wanted to give you a counter post. I wrote one a while back about what NOT to do on Twitter, which I think syncs up very well with yours so I’ll share.
Its called Top 5 Ineffective Social Media Accounts:

Keep up the great work!
Call me old fashioned, but this just reminds me of spam. I would be very inclined to stop following because how much value is there to the non-spam 140 character messages being produced by you each day? What signal-to-noise ratio are you producing?
I’ll stick with SalesBlogcast in any case.

Hey @SalesBlogcast – thanks for demystifying what seems to be such a simple little thing to do.
